rails to trails conservancy

Dear Campaign Advocate,

You may have heard that trails, walking and bicycling could face substantial threats in the upcoming U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations bill. The bill, released last Friday, thankfully did not directly target core programs that support trails, walking and bicycling.

But we are not out of the woods yet. Now we shift to “Amendment Watch.”

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC), working with our partners at America Bikes and other organizations, has developed a plan for the big week ahead:

1. We will find out each weekday morning this week whether there are any amendments that jeopardize funding for trails, walking and bicycling. If so, we could have mere hours to generate a tidal wave of e-mails to congressional offices before a vote that day.

2. We plan to send you an alert immediately if an amendment is offered. Please forward, or send a similar alert, to your lists.

3. If appropriate, we encourage you to educate your memberships with a very brief “Pre-Alert” signaling that this week is likely to be critically important for preserving funding for trails, walking and bicycling. Feel free to borrow from the pre-alert that RTC sent out yesterday in concert with partner advocates from America Bikes.

This situation is extremely fluid, and we genuinely appreciate your willingness to join forces in defending our core programs.

Thank you,

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy
