rails to trails conservancy

Dear Campaign Leader,

As promised in last week’s e-mail, Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) just yesterday distributed a "Dear Colleague" letter to the 375 U.S. House members who have not yet co-sponsored H.R. 4722, the Active Community Transportation Act of 2010 (ACT Act).

This "Dear Colleague" letter kicks off a multi-pronged strategy to add to the 60 representatives who have signed on the bill. Please arm your federal lobbyists or advocates with a copy of your case statement and one to three compelling documents of support for the bill (perhaps culled from your case statement). (See last week’s e-mail for more details.)

Also available to your lobbyists are the "Dear Colleague" letter, an updated Campaign for Active Transportation two-pager, and a national letter of support. The "Resources and Materials" page has links to these documents and more.

While these individuals are meeting with congressional offices, RTC is organizing a massive online outreach strategy, encouraging our grassroots support base to simultaneously encourage co-sponsorship.

We hope to substantially increase the number of co-sponsors on this bill before and during the August congressional recess.

As you plan meetings or communiqués with your federal representatives, it’s crucial that you let us know of these plans so we can stay up to date on all developments. We will similarly communicate with you regarding our congressional visits.

Sincerely,

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy

P.S. Don’t have a federal lobbyist at your disposal? That doesn’t have to stop you from advocating for the bill. If you are personally unable to do so, there are ample resources at your disposal to keep up the pressure: local advocates (biking, environmental, health), chamber of commerce, city council members, and more. If you’re having difficulties pursuing this effort, we’re here to help!
